Gandhinagar introduces discounts for voting
District Election Officer Mehul Dave has launched a voter discount initiative aimed to bolster voter participation in Gandhinagar district during the Lok Sabha election. As part of the initiative, small and large businesses in the area have joined forces to incentivize voting by offering attractive discounts to voters, setting a unique example for the state.
Under this initiative, citizens can avail themselves of discounts on their purchases by simply exercising their right to vote. United Farmers Creamery Ice Cream (UFC), Moka Cafe, Curry's Restaurant, Celedifique Restaurant at Kudasan, and Infocity, developed by the Jhala Brothers Corporation, have all pledged to provide a 7% discount to voters on their bills.
Vidhi Jai Patel, a woman entrepreneur who owns a gola center near G-4 Garden in the state capital, has also committed to offering a 7% discount to voters. The cooperative sector has followed suit, with managers of the Kamdhenu restaurant in Gandhinagar announcing a 7% discount for citizens who dine at their establishment after casting their votes.
Radhe Sweets, renowned for its delectable farsan and sweetmeats in Gandhinagar, has also extended a 7% discount on purchases exceeding Rs 100 to voters. Additionally, Maheshbhai Sukhdia, the president of Radhe Sweets, has outlined plans to coordinate with other farsan and sweet shops in Gandhinagar to offer varied discounts to incentivize voter turnout.
Expressing appreciation for the collaborative effort, District Election Officer and Collector Mehul Dave commended the traders for their proactive approach in promoting civic engagement and voter participation. Dave emphasized the importance of such initiatives in fostering a vibrant democracy and urged citizens to seize the opportunity to make their voices heard through the ballot box.
The voter discount initiative depicts the significance of grassroots initiatives in encouraging citizens to actively participate in the democratic process. By aligning economic incentives with civic responsibilities, businesses are not only fostering community engagement but also amplifying the impact of democracy at the local level.
