Why silence prevails on corruption charges: Verma

- STAFF REPORTER / Rajnandgaon

Chhattisgarh Bharatiya Janata Party State General Secretary Bharat Verma on Tuesday said Congress candidate and former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel is silent on the corruption charges.

He said the former Deputy Secretary Soumya Chaurasia was close to the Chief Minister’s Office and she had been denied bail again and again. She has been in jail since she was arrested. It is not possible without strong evidence of corruption, then why the former CM is silent on the issue.

Verma alleged that Soumya Chaurasia or Anil Tuteja or officer Sameer Vishnoi, all of them are either in jail or on bail on serious charges of corruption. The former chief minister had direct connection with them. If there is no stake, then why are the regular statements being issued that all these officials have been falsely implicated.

When Soumya Chaurasia and Sameer Vishnoi were arrested in the initial phase, the Congress candidate had claimed their innocence, but it has been almost 16 to 18 months and the court has not granted them bail, Verma said.

He alleged that if the facts are to be checked, then the Chief Minister, whom the officials worked with are languishing in jails, then it is evident that the CM will receive the part of the robbery. Through the loot the rights of the tribals, Scheduled Caste and backward class people of Chhattisgarh, have been violated.
