Summer time indulgence: Street food causing typhoid, jaundice and dysentery

Parents, avoid giving street food to your children during summer as it can give them typhoid, jaundice, and abdominal distress in the form of dysentery. It is the right time to watch your child’s eating habits and improve his/ her overall well-being. Summer is here! It is the time when children indulge in delicious and tempting street food delicacies that are available on the streets in the country. Popular items that children often love eating are Pani Puri the creamy and sweet ice cream, these treats can help to satisfy the child’s cravings during the scorching heat of summer. However, it’s essential to be cautious about where one sources these snacks as the place can be unhygienic. Even improper handling and poor sanitation can lead to dangerous consequenc­es such as typhoid, jaundice, and dysentery.

· Typhoid fever Typhoid fever can be termed as a bacterial infection that is seen in children and adults due to Salmonella typhi bacteria, due to contaminat­ed food or water. The symptoms of it are high fever, severe pain in the stomach, headache, diarrhea or constipati­on, and poor appetite. Jaundice is a condition that causes yellowing of the skin and eyes and is also credited to the contaminat­ed water used in preparing pani puri. Typhoid can be called pani puri disease.

To deal with typhoid, jaundice, and dysentery in children will require prompt medical interventi­on for quick recovery. Take the medication prescribed by the doctor, eat homecooked nutritious food, ensure proper sanitation, maintain personal hygiene, and wash hands before eating. To manage dysentery, give oral rehydratio­n solution to the child. Follow these guidelines and make sure that the child stays happy and healthy during summer.
