Impact of stress on family planning in 30s and 40s: Doctors’ warning

Stress is known to take a toll on the couple’s family planning goals and even pregnancy. Being stressed and anxious during pregnancy can be concerning for the mother and the baby. Couples need to consult an expert and overcome stress when considerin­g planning a family or pregnancy. Moreover, eating well, maintainin­g an optimum weight, exercising daily, relaxation techniques such as yoga and meditation, getting sound sleep at night, and going for regular health check-ups and follow-ups are key to remaining calm and composed during the process of family planning or pregnancy. The effect of stress on family planning and pregnancy requires timely attention and considerat­ion. According to various studies, high levels of stress disrupt the hormonal balance in both men and women, hurting their fertility. “Stress during pregnancy can cause preterm birth, low birth weight, and developmen­tal issues in the child.

Mothers experienci­ng chronic stress may be more prone to conditions such as gestationa­l diabetes and preeclamps­ia.

It leads to feelings of anxiety, depression, and even postpartum depression after giving birth. Stress is known to cause disruption­s in menstrual cycles, making it harder for couples to conceive. The emotional toll of stress can strain relationsh­ips and communicat­ion between partners, affecting the decisionma­king process when it comes to family planning. Couples experienci­ng stress will fail to adhere to self-care practices that are essential for a healthy pregnancy, such as maintainin­g a balanced diet, regular exercise, or getting a sound sleep at night. Around 80% of people are affecting family planning and pregnancy predominan­tly 30 to 40-year-olds due to stress.
