Sena UBT workers say stopped from entering Gujarati-dominated building

- KALPESH MHAMUNKAR / MUMBAI

Unrest prevailed in Ghatkopar after the workers of Shiv Sena (UBT) were stopped from entering a housing society which has a prominent number of Gujarati people.

Both the Mahayuti and Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) are campaigning rigorously in Maharashtra. They are leaving no stone unturned to malign the image of each other's candidates.

However, UBT workers, who were campaigning for Sanjay Dina Patil alleged that they were stopped from distributing pamphlets and campaigning in Samarpan Building, Maneklal Estate, Ghatkopar (W). UBT workers alleged that they were told by the residents of society that they will not allow the Marathi candidate to campaign in their complex.

Later, police intervened and brought the situation under control.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said, “What the Shinde-led Shiv Sena is doing, who called themselves the real Shiv Sena? It is a challenge to the UBT by Shiv Sena of Shinde and Fadanvis. We will see what to do. Shiv Sena under the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray has accepted the challenge.”

Bhalchandra Shirsat, spokesperson of BJP, said, “Normally, because of security reasons many outsiders are not allowed in the building premises. BJP workers are also facing such types of hurdles in many buildings. Allegation of restraining a particular community is wrong. After not getting a good response in two phases, the MVA is creating MarathiGujarati rift. If UBT workers wanted to campaign, then they should have taken permission from office-bearers of the building.”

Few days back, a Girgaonbased company published an advertisement inviting candidates for graphic designer's post, but mentioned that Marathi youths should not apply. Later, this advertisement was withdrawn from the website after a ruckus.
