- statement

Gujarat Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai has issued a public apology following widespread outcry within the Koli Community sparked by his remarks. Desai clarified that his remarks, delivered in the local language of Valsad, were not intended to hurt the sentiments of the Koli community and expressed regret if they had caused offense.

In his apology statement, Desai emphasized his longstanding association with the Koli Community, both socially and politically, highlighting his active involvement in supporting their welfare initiatives. He explained that a portion of his speech delivered during the Koli Samaj Sammelan on the evening of April 14 was misinterpreted and circulated in a manner that misrepresented his intentions.

"I can assure you that if the full speech is heard, no sentiment would be hurt. Still, if my statement has hurt any sentiment, then I wholeheartedly apologize," Desai affirmed, seeking to address any concerns and reassure the community of his goodwill.

The controversial made by Kanu Desai elicited strong reactions from leaders within the Koli community. Munna Bavaliya, a prominent figure in the community, demanded a public apology in response to the alleged derogatory remarks made during the election campaign. Bavaliya underscored the significant voting power wielded by the Koli community and emphasized the need for accountability from public officials.

Pravin Solanki, Vice President of Akhil Bharatiya Koli Samaj, echoed Bavaliya's sentiments, denouncing derogatory remarks from high-ranking officials like the Finance Minister. Solanki emphasized that such comments would not be tolerated by the Koli community and called for Desai to take responsibility for his words.
