Voting in seven LS in Chhattisga­rh today

The polling for seven Lok Sabha Constituen­cies in Chhattisga­rh will be held on May 7 from 7.00 am till 6.00 pm. The seats which are going for polls are Raipur, Bilaspur, Korba, Durg, Raigarh, Surguja, and Janjgir-Champa.

Chief Electoral Officer, Chhattisga­rh Reena Babasaheb Kangale briefing media on Monday said all the preparatio­ns have been completed for the third phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024 in the state.

Voting will be held from 7 am to 6 pm in 58 assembly constituen­cies of 7 Lok Sabha seats of Chhattisga­rh. The total number of voters are 1,39,01,285. 69,33,121 male voters, 69,67,544 female voters and 620 third gender voters to exercise their franchise at 15,701 polling stations of seven Lok Sabha seats, she said.

The number of voters has increased by 9.34 percent compared to the previous phase. There are 11,87,470 new voters in the election, she added.

Kangale said May 7 has been declared a public holiday in the state. In view of the heat, additional arrangemen­ts for waiting halls have been made in the polling stations. Cooler has also been arranged. Pandals will be set up in polling stations. Arrangemen­ts for drinking water, lemonade and ORS solution will be made. Mitanins will also be present along with medical kits.

She adds, total 2809 Sangwari polling stations, will be managed by the female polling personnel, have been set up in the seven Lok Sabha seats. 58 polling stations will be managed by PwD polling personnel while 235 polling stations will be managed by the youth polling personnel. 306 Model polling stations have been set up spread over the seven Lok Sabha seats of the state.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Surguja Lok Sabha seat saw a turnout of 77.30%, Raigarh Lok Sabha seat recorded 77.78%, JanjgirCha­mpa Lok Sabha seat had 65.58%, Korba Lok Sabha seat witnessed 75.28%, Bilaspur Lok Sabha seat reported 64.36%, Durg Lok Sabha seat had 71.68%, and Raipur Lok Sabha seat recorded 66% turnout.
