Lucky to have played with two greats of world cricket, says Green

Kohli and Rohit are both legends of the game and they are equally happy to give you a lot of their time, says the Australia and RCB allrounder

Kolkata Knight Riders cruised past Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s 183run target with 19 balls to spare in their IPL game here on Friday, but RCB allrounder Cameron Green insisted that his team was “very, very happy” with its score.

In a virtual media interaction on Saturday, Green also spoke about playing professional cricket while coping with his chronic kidney disease. The Australian recently visited the Bangalore Kidney Foundation here to raise awareness about the disease. Excerpts:

RCB scoring 182 against KKR:

I think we did really well to get 182 on that wicket. It was a bit above par for the conditions we faced. The pitch was a bit tough. Virat (Kohli) summed up the conditions well and batted beautifully. We were very, very happy with 182, but you also know that it is easy to chase it at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Conditions do change from innings to innings. A lot of credit has to go to KKR for the way they batted.

I’ve been very impressed with how much energy he has to help others. I’ve questioned him about certain things. For example, sometimes he taps the bat on the ground, and other times he keeps it up. He told me that he taps the bat when he wants to hit the ball far.

Batting with Kohli: Sharma (when Green was at Mumbai Indians):

They’re both great for the game. I’m pinching myself as I have been lucky to have played with two greats of world cricket. They are equally happy to give you a lot of their time.

Coping with chronic kidney condition:

It is challenging, especially in India, as there are limited food options. With my condition, I have to look after my salt and protein. I’ve had some challenging times on the cricket field too. There have been a few times when I’m in a really good position in the game, with just half an hour to go to get my team over the line. And then I get a cramp. I get emotional because you feel like it is all against you. You blame yourself and feel guilty for holding the team back.
