‘Star campaigner­s’ of Congress include Syed Naseer Hussein

The Congress on Sunday released the list of its ‘star campaigner­s’ from Karnataka which also included twotime Rajya Sabha member Syed Naseer Hussein whose supporters have been accused of raising proPakista­n slogans on the Vidhan Soudha premisis.

Mr. Hussein had come under intense attack from the Opposition that had urged the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman not to administer the oath to him. The alleged sloganshou­ting had been reported soon after the Rajya Sabha election results were declared in which Mr. Hussein was victorious. Three of his followers who had allegedly shouted slogans during the victory celebratio­ns have been arrested.

Mallikarju­n Kharge leads the list that has former Congress presidents Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, Chief Minister Siddaramai­ah, and Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC president D.K. Congress general secretary (organisati­on) K.C. Venugopal, general secretarie­s Randeep Singh Surjewala and Jairam Ramesh, former Chief Minister M. Veerappa Moily, seniormost legislator of Karnataka R.V. Deshpande, the former Leader of the Opposition in Legislativ­e Council B.K. Hariprasad, and the former Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi are among the 40 ‘star campaigner­s’.
