Honours even between Tottenham and West Ham

-

Tottenham missed the chance to overtake Aston Villa in the race for Champions League qualification after settling for a 11 draw at West Ham on Tuesday in the Premier League.

Brennan Johnson had given fifthplace Spurs an ideal start at London Stadium, but that was cancelled out by Kurt Zouma’s leveller in the 19th.

West Ham could have won if Michail Antonio had been more ruthless with a secondhalf chance.

The forward raced through on goal after an hour, but with only Guglielmo Vicario to beat, he fired straight at the Spurs goalkeeper.

Spurs knew a big enough win would have seen it overtake fourthplace Villa on goal difference. And that looked like a possibility when the visitor raced into an early lead after Timo Werner burst past Vladimir Coufal and

Zouma’s goal in the 17th minute drew played in Johnson to convert from close range.

But manager Ange Postecoglou was left frustrated when Jarrod Bowen’s corner was turned in by an unmarked Zouma.

The result left Tottenham two points behind Villa, having played the same number of games.

Newcastle’s push for European football next season was also dented by Dominic CalvertLewin’s late penalty as Everton fought back to earn a 11.

The home team went on

to dominate for long periods, but two VAR calls in the second half proved decisive as Everton salvaged a valuable point in its fight to avoid relegation.

The results: Bournemouth 1 (Kluivert 79) bt Crystal Palace 0; Burnley 1 (Bruun Larsen 37) drew with Wolves 1 (Ait Nouri 45+3); Newcastle 1 (Isak 15) drew with Everton 1 (CalvertLewin 88pen).

Nottingham Forest 3 (HudsonOdoi 9, Wood 19, GibbsWhite 45+3) bt Fulham 1 (Adarabioyo 49); West Ham 1 (Zouma 19) drew with Tottenham 1 (Johnson 5).
