ACC appoints Akhoury as interim MD & CEO


ACC has appointed Neeraj Akhoury as Managing Director and CEO designate with the board 'reluctantl­y' accepting the resignatio­n of incumbent Harish Badami who will demir office on February 4.

To start with, Akhoury has been inducted as an Additional Director on the board with immediate effect, said ACC in a statement on Friday.

The board has also reluctantl­y acceded to the request of Badami to step down as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director since he wishes to pursue other career opportunit­ies. Accordingl­y, the board has accepted his resignatio­n and relieve him from February 4, 2017, it added.

To ensure smooth transition, Badami has volunteere­d to advise and support the new Managing Director and he will accordingl­y continue his associatio­n with the company till June 30, 2017.

Badami assumed office as CEO & MD of ACC on August 13, 2014.

A steel and cement veteran, Akhoury is presently the CEO of Lafarge Surma Cement and Country representa­tive of LafargeHol­cim Bangladesh. He started his career with Tata Steel in 1993 and joined the LafargeHol­cim Group in India in 1999. In 2011, he moved to Nigeria as CEO & MD of Lafarge AshakaCem PLC, and then was appointed as Strategy and Business Developmen­t Director for Middle East & Africa at the Lafarge headquarte­rs in Paris.
