Fourth Rangie set to join the gang in India from Jan
The much awaited Velar, the fourth model from the Range Rover stable, will officially be launched here on January 20, 2018. In the meantime, folks at JLR have already announced the starting price for the new model as starting from ₹78.83 lakh. Bookings are open and deliveries of the Velar are expected to commence from the end of January next year.
In terms of size, price and customer profile, the Velar is positioned between the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport. The Velar comes to our shores within about six months of its global launch. The design of the new model is said to usher in a new direction for the brand, though influenced by the two models that it attempts to sit between. The interior design of the Velar is expected to be the more significant trendsetter for the brand and would form the basis for future models too.
The Velar shares its aluminium platform with Jaguar models like the F-Pace and the XF. The Rangie also shares the Ingenium engines with other Jaguar models. It is being launched in India with three engine options, two diesel — the TD4 twolitre diesel, the SDV6 three-litre diesel — and one petrol — the SI4 two-litre, turbo-charged petrol engine. Apparently, depending on the demand, a second petrol engine option may be considered at a later date.
In terms of variant and trim options, the Velar is being offered with three model variants, including R-Dynamic and First Edition; and four or three trim variants depending on the choice of engine. The First Edition will be offered in only one, fullyloaded trim level.
