Tea pro­duc­tion lags 2017 lev­els

Septem­ber was a bet­ter month for tea pro­duc­tion in the coun­try, but the cu­mu­la­tive out­put in the nine months of this cal­en­dar was still short of the level reached in the same pe­riod of 2017 thereby con­tin­u­ing with the con­tention that In­dia is head­ing for a lower pro­duc­tion of black tea. “As per the lat­est Tea Board data, In­dia pro­duced 160.65 mil­lion kg (mkg) in Septem­ber com­pared to 152.21 mkg in Septem­ber 2017, up 8.44 mkg or 5.54 per cent,” Ra­jesh Gupta, com­piler of the an­nual Global Tea Di­gest, told Busi­nessLine.
