Kr­ish­na­murthy Subra­ma­nian is new Chief Eco­nomic Ad­vi­sor

The Ap­point­ments Com­mit­tee of the Cab­i­net has ap­pointed Kr­ish­na­murthy Subra­ma­nian, As­so­ciate Pro­fes­sor & ED (CAF), ISB, Hyderabad, to the post of Chief Eco­nomic Ad­vi­sor (CEA) to the Fi­nance Min­istry.

Subra­ma­nian has been ap­pointed on a con­tract ba­sis for three years from the date of his as­sump­tion of charge of the post.

Subra­ma­nian is one of the world’s lead­ing ex­perts in bank­ing and eco­nomic pol­icy, ac­cord­ing to the In­dian School of Busi­ness. His ser­vices on RBI’s ex­pert com­mit­tee on gov­er­nance of banks has es­tab­lished him as one of the chief ar­chi­tects of the bank­ing re­forms in In­dia, the ISB said on its web­site.

Subra­ma­nian is also a mem­ber of SEBI’s Stand­ing Com­mit­tee on Al­ter­na­tive In­vest­ment Pol­icy headed by Narayana Murthy. His pub­lic pol­icy work also ex­tends to other sec­tors, in­clud­ing work­ing with the Fi­nance Min­istry to re­form the coun­try’s food pol­icy. As part of his cor­po­rate pol­icy work, he serves on the board of Band­han Bank. He also serves on the board of the Na­tional In­sti­tute of Bank Man­age­ment, which is chaired by the RBI Gover­nor.

Subra­ma­nian takes over from Arvind Subra­ma­nian, who quit as CEA on June 20 this year.
