Shunted out, ex-CBI chief Verma re­signs

Ousted CBI Chief Alok Verma on Fri­day re­fused to take up his new as­sign­ment as Di­rec­tor Gen­eral, Fire Ser­vices, Civil De­fence and Home Guards, and wrote to the Sec­re­tary, De­part­ment of Per­son­nel and Train­ing, ask­ing him to be treated as “deemed su­per­an­nu­ated” with im­me­di­ate ef­fect. In­terim Di­rec­tor M Nageswara Rao has can­celled all trans­fer de­ci­sions taken by Verma, rev­ert­ing to the po­si­tion of of­fi­cials as on Jan­uary 8, of­fi­cials said.

Mean­while, the Delhi High Court has re­fused to quash an FIR filed against CBI Spe­cial Di­rec­tor Rakesh Asthana over bribery al­le­ga­tions.
