Traders’ body to launch campaign: One nation-one trader-one vote
A national campaign to propagate ‘One Nation-One Trader-One Vote’ will be launched from February 1, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has said.
The political spectrum of the country has so far grossly neglected the trading community and has taken a comfortable ride on the community. But now it is high time the traders bring end to this system, a resolution, adopted in the National Governing Council Meeting of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) read. The meeting was attended by over 200 trade leaders from 24 States.
According to the trade body, there are about seven crore small businesses in the country providing livelihood and employment to about 45 crore people generating an annual business of about ₹42 lakh crore. After agriculture, retail sector is the second largest employer.
In order to consolidate such a large population of trading community into a vote bank, the CAIT resolved to launch a nation-wide campaign. CAIT National President BC Bhartia and Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal alleged that no importance is given to trading community in political discourse.
A statement released by CAIT said that ‘Trader FirstPolitical Party Afterwards’ will be the slogan of vote bank national campaign. The trade leaders also said that they will demand election tickets from different political parties. “The Lok Sabha polls are an opportunity for us to underline our importance in Indian economy and we are gearing ourselves for the cause-said the trade leaders,” Khandelwal said.
