Woman gangraped, murdered near Gummidipoo­ndi, three arrested

A 30-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped and murdered by three youth in Madharpakk­am near Gummidipoo­ndi in Tiruvallur district. Padirivedu police have arrested them.

On Thursday afternoon, the police in Padirivedu Station received informatio­n about the body of a woman being found on a vacant land near a Tasmac outlet.

The body was partially clothed and bore several wound marks. The police sent it to Government Stanley Hospital for a post-mortem, after launching an investigat­ion to identify the victim and the assailants.

The report con¢rmed that she had been raped and murdered. A senior police o¦cer said, “We have conducted an investigat­ion and analysed CCTV footage and mobile phone signals. The CCTV footage showed that the deceased was buying liquor from the outlet on Wednesday night and a youth followed her. We have identi¢ed the suspects with the help of villagers who had seen them at the outlet. After investigat­ion, three youth were arrested.”

The arrested persons have been identi¢ed as Swender, 23, of Madharpakk­am; Surya, 26 of Padirivedu; and Jebakumar, 23 of Kannampakk­am. They were remanded in judicial custody on Saturday.

During the interrogat­ion, they confessed to the crime.

The trio claimed the woman was drunk. They were also in an inebriated condition, and raped and strangled her to death. They then ¤ed the place.

The senior o¦cer said that the identity of the victim was still not known. She could be from neighbouri­ng Andhra Pradesh as she was earlier seen picking rags in the area.

Further investigat­ions are on.

The Maduravoya­l police on Saturday arrested two sta— members of a two-wheeler showroom for stealing spare parts.

The police said S. Sreedevi, 40, of Jawahar Nagar, runs a two-wheeler showroom in Poonamalle­e High Road in Maduravoya­l. When Sridevi checked the accounts, she found several spare parts in the store missing. Based on her complaint, the police probed the matter.

It was found that S. Manikandan, who was working as a manager, along with employees Udhaya and others, had hacked into the computer, uploaded false accounts and sold spare parts from the company worth ₹5.91 lakh. The police have arrested Manikandan and Udhaya.
