LS polls: DMK announces candidates for Coimbatore and Pollachi constituencies
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Wednesday announced its candidates for the Coimbatore and Pollachi Parliamentary constituencies for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls.
B. Rajkumar, known popularly as Ganapathi Rajkumar, is not new to Coimbatore’s public.
He started his political career in 1989, joining the AIADMK. In 2001, he was elected as a Corporation councillor and was elected Coimbatore Mayor in 2014.

He joined DMK in 2020 in the presence of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. With a
doctorate in journalism and mass communication, the 59yearold candidate is known for the works he took up in egovernance and restoration of water bodies in Coimbatore.
K. Easwaraswamy, the Pollachi candidate, runs several businesses, including a spinning mill and
twowheeler dealership.
A resident of Maivadi panchayat, the 48yearold candidate was the Madathukulam union member in 2007.
He is the DMK’s Madathukulam union secretary.
Filing of nominations
While the Coimbatore and the Tiruppur district administrations braced for the commencement of filing of nominations by the candidates on Wednesday, only one nomination was received in Coimbatore, while none was reported in Tiruppur.
According to the Election Commission of India’s schedule for Lok Sabha Elections 2024, the deadline for filing nominations is March 27.
In a related development, the DMK, as part of its manifesto, announced plans to extend the Coimbatore Metro Rail Project service to Tiruppur if the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc secures power in the elections.
