Massive turnout at Kerala government’s public outreach event as complaints pour in
IUML leader’s presence at Navakerala Sadas sparks row
The second day of the Navakerala Sadas, the Kerala government’s public outreach programme, witnessed an enthusiastic response from people in four constituencies — Kasaragod, Kanhangad, Uduma, and Thirkaripur — in Kasaragod district.
The venues were filled with people from diverse backgrounds, which included a notable presence of women and children. Before the event even commenced, the complaint counters were operational, addressing a substantial number of public grievances. The issues raised included concerns about housing schemes, welfare programmes, land disputes, and road development.
Special provisions were made to streamline the complaint filing process. At the Nayanarmoola Chengala Panchayat Stadium in the Kasaragod constituency alone, 3,450 complaints were registered at the complaint counters. In Uduma,
N.A. Aboobacker, a member of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) State council and an industry leader, shared the stage with CM Pinarayi Vijayan during the Navakerala Sadas in Kasaragod on Sunday. The unexpected collaboration is notable as
officials received complaints.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan emphasised the collective need to face challenges, alleging financial pressures from the both the Congress and the IUML had previously announced that no United Democratic Front (UDF) leader would participate in the government’s outreach programme. The IUML has later on disowned Mr. Aboobacker for attending the event.
Central government. He said communal forces were attempting to disrupt unity and stressed the importance of democratic alternatives in the face of internal divisions.
