Inform Super Kings has an edge over Delhi Capitals

- S. Dipak Ragav

After two defeats on the road, Delhi Capitals will look for comfort at its temporary home ground for two games at the ACAVDCA Stadium as it gears up for a stern test against tabletopper Chennai Super Kings on Sunday.

The hosts will be acutely aware of the perils of not getting early wins on the board.

In 2023, their campaign was derailed by five losses out of the gate, from which they could never recover, and finished a lowly ninth in the table.

Over-reliant

Even as skipper Rishabh Pant is slowly finding his feet, the Capitals’ batting seems overreliant on openers David Warner and

Mitchell Marsh.

It will be interesting to see if the team plays destructive opener Prithvi Shaw to strengthen its batting lineup.

Capitals have a few headaches even on the bowling front, with the pacers leaking runs in the death overs in the first two matches.

Well-rounded squad

Meanwhile, Super Kings will look to continue their winning run and hold the edge, thanks to a wellrounded squad.

The depth in the batting lineup has allowed its batters to be aggressive throughout the innings, putting the opposition bowlers under the pump.

Three lefthanders in the top six, including the inform Shivam Dube, also give the Chennai outfit a tactical advantage to neutralise Capitals’ leftarm spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel.

The Super Kings’ new overseas picks have all performed admirably in the first two games and the only challenge is whether they would be able to adapt quickly to the conditions away from home.
