NIHSAD. He said Muttar and Ambalappuzha North had been under surveillance following the bird ˜u outbreaks at Edathua and Cheruthana last week.

After the presence of the H5N1 subtype of the In˜uenza A virus was con†rmed in ducks of three farmers — one at Edathua grama panchayat (Ward 1) and two at Cheruthana panchayat (Ward 3) — rapid response teams of the Animal Husbandry Department culled 17,480 birds, mostly ducks, within a one-km radius of bird ˜u hotspots on April 19.

The avian in˜uenza virus can be transmitted to humans. The Health department has tightened preventive steps and urged people to maintain caution. Surveillance has been strengthened within a 10km radius of the hotspots.

The main accused in the stone-throwing incident against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has two different dates of birth on documents — one issued by a hospital and the other mentioned in Aadhaar card, the police said on Sunday.

The Ajitsingh Nagar police arrested Vemula Satish Kumar, a daily wager hailing from Vaddera Colony, for allegedly throwing a stone at the Chief Minister during the latter’s election campaign in Vijayawada on April 13.

According to his birth certi†cate, Mr. Satish Kumar was born on October 14, 2005. However, his date of birth was mentioned as April 14, 2006, in his Aadhaar card, which certi†es him as a minor.

The investigation o™cers said that the Aadhaar card was not considered if the date of birth was mentioned in the birth certi†cate or academic certi†cates. They produced the birth certi†cate of the accused in the court.

Mr. Satish Kumar was shifted to Vijayawada Jail after the court sent him to a judicial remand for 14 days.

“We are investigating how and from where Satish Kumar managed to get his Aadhaar card by changing his date of birth,” a police o™cer said.

Meanwhile, the NTR Commissionerate police released Vemula Durga Rao, another suspect in the case, on Saturday after thorough questioning.

It was alleged that Mr. Durga Rao, who has political links, along with Mr.

Satish Kumar, hatched a conspiracy to kill the Chief Minister.

Vijayawada Police Commissioner Kanthi Rana Tata told The Hindu on Sunday that the police took Durga Rao into custody under Section 160 of Cr.PC to verify his involvement in the case. “Durga Rao was asked to cooperate with the investigation before he was freed,” he said.

Mr. Durga Rao said that the police questioned him about if anybody instigated him to kill the Chief Minister, and other details related to the case.
