Flamboyant Capitals continue their high-scoring ways at home
DC’s 221 for eight against RR is its third consecutive 200+ total at the venue; Fraser-McGurk, Porel notch up quickre fties while Stubbs gives the late ourish with a 20-ball 41; Ashwin shines with a three-wicket haul for the visitor
Delhi Capitals sustained its highscoring ways at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in IPL 2024 as it amassed 221 for eight wickets in the rst innings against Rajasthan Royals here on Tuesday.
DC’s onslaught was led by a couple of breakneck
fties from openers Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abhishek Porel, as the home side accounted for its third consecutive 200+ score at the venue.
R. Ashwin was the only Royals bowler who held his own, with the experienced o-spinner ending with his best bowling gures of the season (three for 24).
On the front foot
DC started the game on the front foot courtesy of Fraser-McGurk, who resumed his free-stroking touch. He sizzled to a 19-ball fty, torching the Royals pacers to a relentless stream of boundaries.
The 22-year-old took a particular liking for the right-arm pace of Avesh Khan. The right-handed batter swished and swashed brutally, scoring 28 runs o an over from the RR bowler.
Just when the Aussie batter threatened to take the game away, he chipped an innocuous high full-toss from Ashwin straight to cover. Royals’ lucky break continued when DC’s onedown batter Shai Hope was run out at the non-striker’s end on the follow-up by pacer Sandeep Sharma.
But DC refused to take the foot o the pedal as it accumulated 79 runs in the PowerPlay, the most Royals have conceded in the rst six overs of a game this season.
Porel led the charge for DC as he raced to his maiden IPL fty. The 22-yearold batter was unfazed against Royals’ stacked bowling attack, as he gathered boundaries with ease. The pick of the lot was a cracking straight drive against Sandeep which whistled to the fence.
Royals though fought back through their spinners, with Ashwin ending Porel’s time in the middle and Yuzvendra Chahal snapping home skipper Rishabh Pant. DC’s innings though found a late ourish through Tristan Stubbs, who took his side past the 200-run mark with some
Rajasthan Royals was 148/3 in 14 overs with Samson (79) and Shubham (13) at the crease. Jaiswal (4), Buttler (19), and Parag (27) were the batters to be dismissed robust hitting. The South African’s 20-ball 41 helped the home side become the second team to score 220+ against the Royals this season (after Kolkata Knight Riders).
