91.55% pass Class X exam in State, Ariyalur tops the table

This year’s pass percentage is slightly higher than the 91.39% recorded last year. However, the total number of students who took the exam has fallen to 8,94,260 from 9,14,320 last year

As much as 91.55% of students have passed the Class X State board examinatio­n this year, according to the results released by the Directorat­e of Government Examinatio­n (DGE) on Friday. Ariyalur district tops the table with a pass percentage of 97.3, followed by Sivaganga at 97 and Ramanathap­uram at 96.3.

This year’s pass percentage is slightly higher than the 91.39% recorded last year. However, the total number of students who took the exam has fallen to 8,94,260 from 9,14,320 last year.

A total of 4,48,061 girls and 4,47,203 boys from 12,616 schools wrote the exam. Girls achieved a pass percentage of 94.53, outperform­ing boys (88.58).

Out of the 12,625 schools in the State, 1,364 government schools and 4,105 other schools recorded a 100% pass. A total of 20,691 students scored a centum in Mathematic­s and 5,104 in science. There were 415 centums in English and only eight in Tamil.

Private schools outperform­ed other schools with a pass percentage of 97.43.

Of the 13,510 disabled candidates who wrote the exam, 12,491 cleared it, recording a 92.45% pass.

Congratula­ting the students, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said, “To pursue higher education in vocational or other streams, there are platforms like the Naan Mudhalvan scheme that the students should take advantage of.”

In a social media post, School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi congratula­ted the students and urged those who had scored low marks to take the supplement­ary exam.

The Directorat­e of Government

Examinatio­ns said that students can take up the Class X supplement­ary exam from July 2, and those who pass it would be eligible for higher education from the current academic year.
