Former World champ Sidi to oversee GFG trainees in camp

The trainees are back at the Gun For Glory (GFG) shooting range on the Central University campus here, run by Olympic medallist Gagan Narang, under the mentorship of former World champion Peter Sidi.

“This camp presents a valuable opportunit­y for aspiring marksmen to refine their skills under the expert guidance of highperfor­mance rifle foreign coaches and GFG coaches,” Gagan told The Hindu.

camps in various places and specially Hyderabad and Telangana is to bring the best talent from across the world to give exposure and knowledge to local shooters under Sidi” he said. “It is a multi pronged training methodolog­y consisting of sports science, nutrition, strength and conditioni­ng.

“The best part is it ensures sharing of technical know how with foreign coaches besides competitio­n support and strategic planning,” he said even while thanking Sports Authority of Telangana State for allocating the shooting range.

“The rifle squad is of 15 athletes, five of whom have now represente­d India and clinched medals. M. Uma Mahesh from Andhra Pradesh, Vedant Waghmare from Maharashtr­a, Melvina Angeline from Tamil Nadu, Naraen Pranav from Karnataka and Swati Chowdhury from West Bengal have contribute­d significan­tly with their internatio­nal experience and achievemen­ts.

“This project provides support in the Olympic events like 10m air rifle, 10m air pistol, 25m pistol and 50m rifle. The core objective is to improve the athletes’ performanc­e,” Gagan added.

Saints beats YMCA Hyderabad

Saints recorded a 5849 win over YMCA Hyderabad in its last roundrobin league match of the fifth Samuel Vasanth Kumar memorial basketball tournament at YMCA Secunderab­ad.

Saints ended the campaign with two wins in three matches while YMCA had a lone win over Telangana YouthA. However, G9 winning all their matches in Level 1 qualified for Level 2, which will have eight teams competing, commencing Saturday.

In a late evening match on Thursday, Telangana YouthB subdued Victory Play Ground (VPG) 5248. The scores:

Shyam wins gold

V. Shyam Kumar of Telangana bagged a gold in the Asian Open powerlifti­ng championsh­ip in the 83kg category in

Kyrgyzstan. The 36yearold Shyam came up with efforts of 180kg in squat, 120kg in bench press and 200kg in deadlift.

Nizamabad eases past Hanamkonda

Nizamabad defeated Hanamkonda 100 in the league phase of the eighth Telangana State subjunior interdistr­ict softball championsh­ip at KGBV Ground (Neradigond­a) in Adilabad.
