Will get Central funds for Medak’s growth, says Raghunandan Rao

- V. Geetanath

BJP’s Medak candidate and former MLA from Dubbak Madhavaneni Raghunandan Rao (56), who began his political career with the TRS, later shifting to the Congress and Œnally joining the BJP, is pinning his hopes on a victory in the Lok Sabha election aided by a polarisation of votes.

“Former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao himself said at a public meeting that there would be polarisation of minority votes. BRS will come in third place. Since Congress is in power in the State, it will muster second place,” said Mr. Rao, conŒdent of breaching the BRS stronghold.

On asked whether he was banking on Hindutva, he replied: “The entire country’s agenda is that. How can there be any other election agenda, when majority of people are Hindus?”

The former MLA said he is expecting to get some minority votes as well, particularly from beneŒciaries of Central schemes. “Loans for street vendors, Mudra loans for micro-enterprises, Muslim women beneŒciaries and building toilets, among others, are such schemes,” he said.

Stating that there is a need for agro-based industries in the region without harming agriculture, he said there is a plan to shift industries towards Dubbak, Gajwel and Narsapur once the Regional Ring Road takes shape.

Mr. Rao is touching upon both local and national issues in his campaign. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has provided funds for developing highways and railways in the area. We will get more roads and railway lines.”

When asked how he plans to deal with the Congress government if elected, he says it won’t be an issue as funds are disbursed by the Centre. “Even the diesel in Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s car is issued by the Centre. Mr. Modi will return to power with 400 seats’ majority.
