Rahul announces jobs, other guarantees for youth
Reaching out to the young population of the country ahead of the Lok Sabha election, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday announced five promises of the party, including recruitment to 30 lakh vacant government posts and apprenticeships.
He said the Congress would treat these promises as its guarantees if elected.
Accompanied by Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Mr. Gandhi addressed a rally at Banswara in Rajasthan as part of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
Mr. Gandhi said the Congress would enact a law to curb the government recruitment exam paper leaks, provide social security to gig workers by implementing a legislation nationally on the pattern of the law passed by the Ashok Gehlot government, and create a ₹5,000crore fund for startups. This scheme will be named ‘Yuva Roshni’ .
He said since Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP had failed to fill up 30 lakh vacancies, the first step of the Congress after coming to power would be making the appointments, which would benefit the Scheduled Castes, the
Scheduled Tribes, and the minorities. “On the lines of the right to employment given by the UPA government through MGNREGS (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme), we are now going to give a legal right to apprenticeship to all the youth,” he said.
The yatra later entered Dahod district in Gujarat, where Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders joined the Congress workers in welcoming Mr. Gandhi.
He questioned the Centre for “handing over natural resources to a few corporates” and on the “₹16 lakh crore corporate debt waiver”. From ports to airports everything is being handed over to corporates while the youth are struggling for jobs, he said.
