Jaishankar discusses bilateral ties with Singapore PM, senior Ministers
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday called on Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, and other senior Ministers and discussed ways to further the strategic bilateral ties, and the situation in the IndoPacific and West Asia regions.
Mr. Jaishankar is on a threeday visit to Singapore from Saturday. He met investors on Saturday and addressed the Indian diaspora on Sunday.
“Honoured to call on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at The Istana. Conveyed the personal greetings of PM Narendra Modi. Valued his perspectives on the current state of the world,” he posted on ◣.
“His positive sentiments on IndiaSingapore relationship have always been a source of strength for our ties,” Mr. Jaishankar said about Mr. Lee’s support for the bilateral relationship.
Apart from Foreign Minister Balakrishnan, Mr. Jaishankar held separate meetings with Minister of Trade and Industry Gan
Kim Yong, and Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean.
‘Discussed IndoPacific’
He also met Finance Minister Lawrence Wong and Minister of Home Affairs and Law K. Shanmugam.
“Delighted to meet Singapore FM Vivian Bala. Reviewed the progress of our bilateral cooperation. Spoke about preparations for the next ISMR meeting. Discussed marking 60 years of our diplomatic ties,” Mr. Jaishankar said.
“Exchanged views on the IndoPacific and West Asia,” he added.
On Saturday, he told Singaporebased investors of opportunities emerging in the manufacturing sector, especially as India embarks on the journey to build a semiconductorled industry.
Mr. Jaishankar will also visit the Philippines and Malaysia. The March 2327 visits will focus on enhancing bilateral relations with the three countries, and would provide an opportunity for engagement on regional issues of mutual concern, the External Affairs Ministry had said.
