ED questions Sena leader for 8 hours in khichdi ‘scam’

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Amol Kirtikar and the candidate from Mumbai North West Lok Sabha seat was questioned by the Enforcemen­t Directorat­e (ED) for over eight hours on Monday in connection with the socalled khichdi ‘scam’.

The ED had summoned Mr. Kirtikar over alleged irregulari­ties in the distributi­on of khichdi by the Brihanmumb­ai Municipal Corporatio­n (BMC) during the COVID19 pandemic. He reached the agency office in south Mumbai around 11.30 a.m and left after 7.30 p.m.

His supporters gathered in large numbers outside and raised slogans against the ED enquiry.

After coming out of the ED office, Mr. Kirtikar told The Hindu, “I have not committed any crime, I genuinely had nothing to worry about.”

Nirupam’s allegation

Earlier in the day, former Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam alleged that Shiv Sena (UBT) spokespers­on Sanjay Raut is the ‘kingpin’ of the ‘khichdi scam’. Mr.

Nirupam claimed that when he began to investigat­e the scam, he learnt that the “mastermind” was someone else. “Personally, this is a tough time for me, and I feel sorry for speaking against my friend and dragging his family members names today who are probably innocent and were not aware of the entire scam that he was running; but truth must be told for public interest, and I am left with no choice.”

Asked about Mr. Nirupam’s allegation­s against him and Mr. Raut, Mr. Kirtikar said, “He is a senior leader. He has been accusing me for a long time. I am just doing my job, don’t want to be affected by harsh remarks against me.”
