Pleasant surprise for Sidharth’s family
Keralites have yet again put up a stellar performance in the UPSC Civil Services 2023 exam, the results of which were declared on Tuesday.
P.K. Sidharth Ramkumar, a native of Kochi, gured on the top of the list of Keralites who won the laurels, securing the fourth rank.
This was Sidharth’s fth attempt at one of the most competitive exams in the country and though he had been selected for IPS twice, in 2021 and 2022, he had chosen to attempt the exam again in the hope of entering the Indian Administrative Service.
Sidharth is at present an IPS trainee at Hyderabad.
A total of 1,016 candidates gure on the nal list who have been recommended for dierent central government services.
Vishnu Sasikumar secured the 31st rank, P.P. Archana 40, R. Ramya 45, Benjo P. Jose 59, Fabi Rasheed 71, S. Prashant 78, Annie George 93, G. Harishanker 107, Febin Jose Thomas 133, Vineeth Lohithakshan 169, Amrutha S. Kumar 179, Manjusha B. George 195, Anusha Pillai 202, Anjit A. Nayar 205, Anakha K. Vijay 220, Nevin Kuruvila Thomas 225, Manjima P. 235, Jacob J. Puthenveettil 246, Megha Dinesh 268, and Parvathy Gopakumar 282 are some of the Keralites who made it to the top 300.

“A pleasant surprise” was how the family members of P.K Sidharth Ramkumar responded after news broke that he won the fourth rank in the Civil Services Exam 2023 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
“It was only after watching television that we knew that he had attempted the exam and appeared for the interview,” says Rathi, his mother, who dened her son as an all-rounder.
“He is a movie bu. He is also passionate about cricket,” she says from her residence on Diwan’s Road opposite Durbar Hall here on Tuesday.
“Maybe he wanted to give us a surprise by not saying anything about the latest attempt,” says an elated Adarsh Kumar, his brother and a lawyer practising at the Kerala High Court. A graduate of Architecture from the College of Architecture, Thiruvananthapuram, in 2019, Sidharth
had rst cracked the Civil Services exam in 2020 and was shortlisted for the Indian Post & Telecommunication Accounts and Finance Service. He won 181st rank in the next attempt and got selected for the Indian Police Service.
The 27-year-old was not ready to give up and secured 121st rank in his third attempt in 2022.
His father, T.M. Ramkumar, who retired as Principal of Chinmaya College of Arts, Commerce and Science in Thripunithura, said he was happy about his son’s achievement. Sidharth had completed his schooling from Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vaduthala, here.
