Modi’s comments don’t suit stature of Indian PM: Kharge

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is fascinated with “Mughals, mutton, Muslim League and mangalasut­ra” and tries to scare people with irrelevant issues, Congress president Mallikarju­n Kharge said here on Friday.

“Such cheap political discourse was never seen in Indian politics and it doesn’t suit the stature of Indian Prime Minister,” he said addressing a press conference.

Mr. Kharge questioned whether Mr. Modi was sleeping if he knew money was being sent in ‘tempos’ to Congress by industrial­ists Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani, and advised him to send Central agencies to the residences of the industrial­ists.

“Let the agencies raid their houses if he had that informatio­n.”

Charging the Prime Minister with favouritis­m, he asked why Gujarat was getting “preference”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Friday, accused the Congress of “wanting to treat Hindus as secondclas­s citizens in their own country with a particular dislike for the Hindu religion and its festivals”.

“They (Congress) did not want the Ram Mandir to be built in Ayodhya. They say building the temple and celebratin­g Ram Navami is against the ‘idea of India’. Those looking from foreigners’ eyes do not know it as it is justice to all and appeasemen­t to none. I am proud of going to temples. But, it is made as if going to temples is against the nation. Do you like to go to Ayodhya for ‘darshan’ or not,” he asked.
