Remove Minister for violation of poll code: Bengal Governor

Difference­s between Bose, State govt. have come out in the open after Bratya Basu participat­ed in a political event at Gour Banga University

n a developmen­t that has brought to the fore the difference­s between the Raj Bhavan and the West Bengal government, Governor C.V. Ananda Bose on Thursday directed the State government to “remove Education Minister Bratya Basu from the Cabinet for deliberate violation of election code”.

Mr. Basu had participat­ed in a political event on the campus of Gour Banga University. After the incident, Mr. Bose directed the removal of the University ViceChance­llor, but Mr. Basu reinstated him.

The Minister also added that if he has violated the poll code, it was the prerogativ­e of a political party to bring it to the notice of the Election Commission of India, which will then take appropriat­e action.
