One soldier killed, four injured in terror attack on IAF convoy in J&K’s Poonch

-

A soldier was killed and four were injured when terrorists ambushed a convoy of the Indian Air Force (IAF) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Saturday, oŸcials said.

They said ve soldiers were injured and were subsequently evacuated to hospital, where one of the two critically injured personnel succumbed to injuries.

Poonch is part of the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha constituency, which is going to the polls in the sixth phase on May 25.

The border district of Poonch, along with adjoining Rajouri, has witnessed some of the major terrorist attacks over the past two years, signalling the return of terror activities to the region.

J&K, near Shahsitar. Cordon and search operations are under way presently in the area by local military units. The convoy has been secured, and further investigation is under progress,” the IAF said on ◣.

The vehicles were moving towards nearby Sanai Top in the district’s Surankote area, they said, suspecting the involvement of the same group of terrorists who carried out an ambush on the troops in adjoining Bu²iaz on December 21 last year, that

left four soldiers dead and three others injured.

The Army truck bore the major brunt of the ring by the terrorists who were armed with AK assault ri²es and are believed to have ²ed into the nearby forests, the oŸcials said.

The police assisted by paramilitary forces carried out searches in Poonch town following inputs about the movement of suspected persons. However, no one was arrested during the operation, the oŸcials said.
