BJP fields Raama Srinivasan and AIADMK gives seat to Saravanan
The Tamil Nadu BJP State general secretary Raama Srinivasan (60) has been fielded as the BJP candidate of Madurai Lok Sabha constituency on Friday.
Born in 1964 in T. Kallupatti in Madurai district, Mr. Srinivasan has been actively involved in the party and popular among the talkshows in the electronic media and digital network.
Having secured a Ph.D in Gandhian philosophy, he has been serving as an Independent Director in NABARD.
He worked as a faculty at SASTRA deemedtobe university, Thanjavur, and has also been a visiting professor at many universities.
Prior to joining the BJP, he was a member in Swadeshi Jagran Manch at State level and a national member in the Vivekananda Kendra.
He contested the bypoll held for the Tirupparankundram Assembly Constituency in 2016.
As a State functionary in the BJP, he spearheaded a movement for revival and rehabilitation of the shut granite quarries in Madurai district.
He was one among the strong contenders who played an active role in bringing the AIIMS in Madurai.
Sitting MP seeks reelection
Sitting MP Su. Venkatesan from the CPI (M) is seeking a reelection from Madurai Lok Sabha and is largely seen as having a good reputation among the general public over the last five years.
As the elected representative, he was active in social media and he strongly criticised the Union government for its ‘nonchalant’ attitude towards Tamil Nadu, which drew the attention of the Centre and other multiple stakeholders.
By roping in the banks, Mr. Venkatesan helped many deserving students to pursue their higher education without any interruptions by getting them education loans. He also used the MPLAD fund for numerous development in the six Assembly constituencies in Madurai.
For the city residents, he organised camps by bringing in all the officials under oneroof and provided pattas and other documents instantly to the applicants without costs.
AIADMK fields practising doctor
The AIADMK has announced P. Saravanan, a practising doctor, as its candidate for Madurai constituency. He is popular among the majority of the voters and is confident of winning the hearts of youngsters and firsttime voters.
Dr. Saravanan was an MLA from the Tirupparankundram Assembly constituency in 2016.
He runs a hospital at Narimedu in Madurai and is known for serving the economically weaker sections.
Prior to joining the AIADMK, he had been in the MDMK, DMK and the BJP.
