S. Balamurugan, Sub-Registrar of Ayyampalayam in Dindigul district, was arrested in a fake land registration case and produced before the Dindigul Judicial Magistrate Court, which remanded him in judicial custody.

Following a complaint from M. Thangarajan of Nilakottai taluk, Superintendent of Police A. Pradeep had directed the District Crime Bureau police to register a case. The police registered a case under IPC Sections 120 (b), 417, 463, 465, 468 and 471 against 13 persons. According to the complainant, he had purchased 62 cents of land in July 2010 from Amalorbavam and since then had been cultivating various crops on the land.

In 2023, Mr. Thangarajan came to know that his land had been illegally sold and registration made at Ayyampalayam Sub-Registrar’s o¢ce. He lodged a complaint with the police.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that a group of about 12 persons were behind the crime.

It is said that Christopher Samuel of Madurai, Felix Martin of Tiruvallur, Nelson of Dindigul, Arul Jecinta Mary of Thanjavur, Sahaya Selvi of Kancheepuram, Antuvan Christie of Thanjavur, Kevin Michael of Thanjavur, Periasamy and Raj Bharath and others were allegedly involved in creating the fake document.

It is said that the document was prepared by S. Kandasamy and two persons, K. Muruganandam of Dindigul and T. Tarunkumar of Cuddalore, reportedly signed as witnesses in the document registered with Sub-Registrar Balamurugan in August 2023.

The Sub-Registrar had connived with the accused and gave his stamp of approval for the registration. The Sub-Registrar should have veri‘ed the encumbrance certi‘cate and other documents prior to the registration. After his arrest, Balamurugan was sent to the district jail.
