Norris trumps Verstappen for maiden F1 triumph

Lando Norris took advantage of a timely caution, scored his rst career victory and handed Max Verstappen his rst South Florida defeat, taking the win on Sunday in the Miami Grand Prix at Miami Internatio­nal Autodrome in Miami Gardens, Florida.

After the rest of the eld pitted before the halfway point, Norris stayed out until Lap 30 after Landon Sargeant and Kevin Magnussen collided in Turn 3, bringing out the safety car.

Norris, 24, pulled away from Verstappen by 1.5 seconds two laps into the restart and eventually grew the lead to over ve seconds with 10 circuits remaining. He beat Verstappen by 7.612 seconds for his rst win in 110 career starts for McLaren.

Indian boxers claimed ve gold medals in the youth category — three men and two women — while nine others nished with silver medals at the ASBC Asian Under-22 & Youth boxing championsh­ips in Astana on Monday.

Brijesh Tamta (48kg) and Aryan Hooda (51kg) registered unanimous 5-0 wins against Tajikistan’s Muminov Muinkhodzh­a and Kyrgyzstan’s Kamilov Zafarbek in their respective nals.

Meanwhile, Yashwardha­n Singh (63.5kg) had to work hard against Gafurov Ruslan of Tajikistan before registerin­g a 4-1 victory.

Among the women, reigning junior World champion Nisha took gold in the 52kg, winning 5-0 against Kazakhstan’s Otynbay Bagzhan.

Laxmi (50kg) dominated completely to force a Referee Stops Contest in the second round against Enkh Nomundari of Mongolia.

Sagar Jakhar (60kg), Priyanshu (71kg), Rahul Kundu (75kg), Aryan (92kg), Tamanna (54kg), Nikita Chand (60kg), Shrushti Sathe (63kg), Rudrika (75kg) and Khushi Pooniya (81kg) came second best.

India nished the Youth competitio­n with 22 medals.
