AAP State leaders join Congressme­n in welcoming Rahul’s to Gujarat

State Congress leaders as well as leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party welcomed Rahul Gandhi as the former Congress president’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra entered tribal pockets of Gujarat from neighbouri­ng Rajasthan on Thursday.

While Gujarat Congress incharge Mukul Wasnik, State unit president Shaktisinh Gohil, Leader of the Opposition Amit Chavda and other party leaders were in attendance, AAP was represente­d by its State unit president Isudan Gadhvi and party leader Gopal Italia.

The State Congress had invited AAP leaders to join the yatra as both parties will be fighting the upcoming Lok Sabha election in Gujarat as part of the INDIA bloc.

AAP will be contesting two seats – Bharuch and Bhavnagar – as part of the electoral alliance while the remaining 24 seats will be contested by the principal Opposition party in the State.

The Congress witnessed a series of defections of senior leaders ahead of Mr. Gandhi’s yatra entering the State, including senior leader Arjun Modhwadia who subsequent­ly joined the BJP. The Congress is down to 13 MLAs in the 182member House just 15 months after the Assembly polls were held in the State.

Six public meetings

In Gujarat, Mr. Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra will pass through seven districts in the central and south regions before entering Maharashtr­a. Over four days in Gujarat, the Congress leader will address six public meetings, hold 27 corner meetings, and be welcomed by supporters and wellwisher­s at over 70 locations as the State Congress has planned elaborate events and mobilised its cadres and supporters to participat­e in the march.
