‘DMK, Cong. will never succeed in developing State’
BJP leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that the INDIA bloc, comprising parties such as the DMK and the Congress, would never succeed in developing Tamil Nadu. “Their history is that of scams, and their policies are focused on coming to power to loot the public,” he said, at a public meeting in Kanniyakumari district.
Mr. Modi said that he was expecting to see a huge transformation in the State. “I am confident that the performance of the BJP in Tamil Nadu will break the arrogance of the INDIA bloc,” he said.
Akin to the BJP’s ‘Ekta (unity) Yatra’ from Kanniyakumari to Kashmir in 1991, this time, the route for the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra’ is from Kashmir to Kanniyakumari, he said. “Just as the people of Jammu and Kashmir rejected the party who dreamt of breaking the nation apart, the people of Tamil Nadu will also do the same,” he said.
Listing various infrastructure projects undertaken by the Centre such as the Kanniyakumari-Thiruvananthapuram fourlane road; the Marthandam-Parvathipuram flyover; and the Narikulam bridge, he said that past governments had kept these projects on hold for years, citing various reasons. On the one hand, there were the BJP’s welfare schemes, and on the other, there were the “DMK government’s scams and more scams”, he alleged.
Ram Temple
Taking pride in the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Mr. Modi said that he had visited several important temples in Tamil Nadu before the event. However, the DMK government had attempted to stop the people from viewing the ceremony, for which it was criticised by the Supreme Court.
