T.N. police team arrest YouTuber from Noida

Felix Gerald, owner of Redpix 24X7 YouTube channel, cited as second accused in a recent case ’led by Tiruchi Cyber Crime Police against YouTuber ‘Savukku’ Shankar, for allegedly making derogatory statements about women police personnel during an interview to the channel, has been arrested by the Tiruchi Police in Noida.

The case was booked on a complaint ’led by M.A. Yasmin, Deputy Superinten­dent of Police, Musiri, alleging that Mr. Shankar had made demeaning comments against women police personnel, consequent­ly causing immense mental agony to them.

Mr. Shankar was arrested by Tiruchi Cyber Crime Police on May 8 in connection with this case.

The police have ’led the case against both Mr. Shankar and Mr. Jerald under sections 294 (b), 353 and 509 of the IPC, section 67 of the IT Act and section 4 of the T.N. Prohibitio­n of Harassment of Women Act for insulting the modesty of women, publishing or transmitti­ng obscene material in electronic form and deterring a public servant from dischargin­g duties. Earlier, a statement from the Tiruchi Rural Police said both Mr. Shankar and Mr. Jerald had broadcast the interview with the intention to malign Tamil Nadu women police o¨cers and personnel. “Due to this video, women police personnel had faced a serious setback in their personal and social lives.”
