Real Madrid thrashes Celta Vigo; Leverkusen downs Wolfsburg

LaLiga leader Real Madrid cruised to a 40 home win over relegation­threatened Celta Vigo on Sunday thanks to goals from Vinicius Jr and Arda Guler as well own goals from Carlos Dominguez and keeper Vicente Guaita.

Real was dominant in the first half but was thwarted by some fine saves from Guaita, although he failed to stop the opener when Vinicius fired home from close range in the 21st minute.

Real doubled its lead in the 79th when Rudiger’s thunderous header from a Luka Modric corner found the net although it was given as an own goal by Guaita.

A Vinicius cross was turned into his own net by defender Dominguez in the 88th minute and substitute Guler added a fourth in stoppage time.

Real, with 69 points, maintained its sevenpoint lead over secondplac­ed Girona, which beat Osasuna 20 on Saturday.

In the Bundesliga, Bayer Leverkusen beat 10man VfL Wolfsburg 20 to restore its 10point lead at the top of the table and stay firmly on course for a first title.

In the Serie A, Juventus was held to a 22 draw by Atalanta at Allianz Stadium. A goal from Diego Llorente in the dying moments of the match secured AS Roma a vital point in the topfour race as it drew 22 at Fiorentina.
