Sri Lanka’s Rajitha out of Bangladesh Test with injury

Dhara Gujjar scored a magnificen­t 140 to help East Zone put up a strong 385 for eight against North East Zone as women’s redball cricket returned in India’s domestic calendar after six years here on Thursday.

East Zone skipper Deepti Sharma opted to bat in the threeday Senior Women InterZonal MultiDay Trophy and put up a 97run opening stand with wicketkeep­erbatter Uma Chetry.

MDCA under-19 selection trials

MAYILADUTH­URAI: The Mayiladuth­urai District Cricket Associatio­n (MDCA) will conduct trials to select the under19 not fast enough to qualify for the individual events in Tokyo but the performanc­es gained her selection for both freestyle and medley relay teams at her home Olympics.

Inform pace bowler Kasun Rajitha is out of the second Test against Bangladesh because of a back injury, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said.

The second and final match begins here on Saturday with Sri Lanka leading 10 after a 328run win in the opening match in Sylhet.

Rajitha played a big part with eight wickets in two innings, including five for 56 in the second innings.

Asitha Fernando has joined the squad as a replacemen­t.

“Kasun Rajitha will not be available for the second Test match as the player has suffered an injury to his left upper back area,” SLC said.

Fernando claimed 10 wickets the last time he played a Test in Bangladesh, in 2022. He last played a fiveday match against Afghanista­n in February.
