Duplantis breaks pole vault record yet again

Armand Duplantis put down a marker ahead of this year’s Paris Olympics as the Swede broke his own pole vault world record with a 6.24 metres effort in the €rst Diamond League meeting of the 2024 season on Saturday.

Duplantis bettered his previous mark of 6.23 set at the Eugene Diamond League €nale in September, clearing the bar with ease before leaping up o¨ the sponge mat below and racing o¨ in celebratio­n at his €rst outdoor event of the year.

World champion Marileidy Paulino earlier captured the €rst track gold of the Diamond League season in the women’s 400m, as the Dominican eased home in 50.08, ahead of Natalia Kaczmarek (50.29) and Britton Wilson (51.26).

Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn then set the pace in the women’s 100m hurdles, cruising to victory in 12.45.

Abdulla eighth

Asian champion triple jumper Abdulla Aboobacker €nished eighth, with 16.33m. Abdulla’s best effort came in the fourth jump. World champion Hugues Fabrice Zango was trailing Aboobacker after three jumps but the Burkina Faso athlete produced a 17.12m e¨ort in the last round and €nished second, behind Portugal’s Olympic champion Pedro Pichardo who won with 17.51m.
