Graduation day
“By 2030, India is likely to be the youngest nation in the world and nearly 140 million people would be ready to enter the portals of higher education institutions,” said B. Venkatraman, Director, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam, speaking at the Graduation Day of St.Joseph’s College. Emphasising the role of education in the nation’s development,Dr. Venkatraman, an alumnus of the Department of Physics of the college, told students to take advantage of the lessons learned in an out of the classroom to grow as well-rounded individuals. Over 1,500 outgoing students of St. Joseph’s College from the batch of 2023 received their degrees, College secretary Rev. K. Amal, and principal Rev. M. Arockiasamy Xavier spoke.
National conference

World Book Day
The National Service Scheme (NSS) cell and Department of Physical Education of J.J. College of Arts and Sciences in Pudukottai recently celebrated World Book Day with 55 students of Neivasalpatti Panchayat Union Primary School to help inculcate the reading habit in them. The school children were gifted a ‘Thirukkural’ text book, along with a notebook and stationery and sweets on behalf of the college by Vanniapatti Panchayat President ARS. Senthilkumar. Kuma. Peri. Sattappa Chettiar, president of Adakkammai Achi Foundation, Nathsanthupatti, presented the prizes. School principal K. Natarajan and NSS programme ocer R. Manimaran, spoke.
IGNOU orientation
Around 300 employees from the Central Railway Workshop, Golden Rock interacted with ocials of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)’s Regional Centre, Madurai, to learn about the various certicate, diploma and degree programmes oered through open and distance learning options,
for career advancement recently. Saroj Ranjan, Regional Director, IGNOU, Madurai and other ocials, met the employees at the orientation meeting held at the Central Workshop and later visited Tiruchi’s IGNOU Study Centre. They discussed promotional strategies for the benet of National Institute of Open Schooling students, working professionals in Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited and dual degree programmes for college and university goers in the region. IGNOU admissions are due to begin in July this year.
Future of education
“Higher educational institutions must prepare students for life as workplace needs are constantly changing. The gig-economy and exponential technologies are transforming work-life balance and the institutions must prepare to accommodate future models of engagement,” said Abhay Jere, vice-chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), speaking at the University Day at SASTRA, deemed to be university, in
Thanjavur. He gave away prizes to outgoing students of various disciplines and research awards to faculty and Ph.D scholars. Vice-Chancellor, S.Vaidhyasubramaniam presented the annual report.
