Four of a family killed as two cars collide head-on
Four members of a family were killed when the car in which they were travelling collided head-on with another car approaching from the opposite direction on the Sathyamangalam-Mettupalayam Road in the late hours of Tuesday.
Murugan, 35, his wife, Ranjitha, 30, their son Abishek, 8, and daughter Nitheesha, 7, from Jadayampalayam in Mettupalayam, were returning from Karur to their native place in a car. Likewise, three college students were returning from Mettupalayam in another car. At 11.15 p.m., the two vehicles collided near Nesavalar Colony.
In the impact, the car in which the family was travelling was completely damaged. The couple and their son died on the spot, while the girl died at a private hospital.

The students, identied as Mohan, 21, of Chennai, Sujith, 21, of Salem, Vishal Badri, 21, of Tiruppur, and Akshara, 21, of Hosur, suffered injuries and were admitted to a private hospital.
The bodies were shifted to the Government Hospital in Sathyamangalam and handed over to the families after a postmortem.
The police said that the students were studying at a private engineering college in Sathyamangalam and
staying in rooms outside the college. They were returning after dining at a restaurant in Bhavanisagar when the accident occurred.
The Bhavanisagar police registered a case against Akshara, who was behind the wheel at the time of the accident, under Sections 279 (driving a vehicle in a negligent manner, thereby endangering human life) and 304 (a) (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.
