IGPs deployed in coastal districts

CHENNAI: Director-General of Police Ashok Kumar has ordered deployment of senior police officers to supervise rescue/relief operations in vulnerable districts ahead of the weather forecast that heavy to very heavy rains were likely in coastal districts.

According to police sources, Inspector-General of Police M.C Sarangan has been sent to Tiruvallur district while IGs K. Periaiah and H.M. Jayaram have been posted in Villuppura­m and Nagapattin­am districts respective­ly. IG Rajeev Kumar will supervise operations in Cuddalore district. Senior police officers have also been posted in Ramanathap­uram, Kanyakumar­i, Kancheepur­am and other coastal districts.

Rosaiah condoles

Governor K. Rosaiah on Saturday conveyed his heartfelt condolence­s to the families of those who lost their lives in the recent rains in the State.

In a message here, he appealed to NGOs and voluntary organisati­ons to join hands with the State machinery to extend all possible help to those affected by the rain.
