IGPs deployed in coastal districts
CHENNAI: Director-General of Police Ashok Kumar has ordered deployment of senior police officers to supervise rescue/relief operations in vulnerable districts ahead of the weather forecast that heavy to very heavy rains were likely in coastal districts.
According to police sources, Inspector-General of Police M.C Sarangan has been sent to Tiruvallur district while IGs K. Periaiah and H.M. Jayaram have been posted in Villuppuram and Nagapattinam districts respectively. IG Rajeev Kumar will supervise operations in Cuddalore district. Senior police officers have also been posted in Ramanathapuram, Kanyakumari, Kancheepuram and other coastal districts.
Governor K. Rosaiah on Saturday conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the recent rains in the State.
In a message here, he appealed to NGOs and voluntary organisations to join hands with the State machinery to extend all possible help to those affected by the rain.
