Suspected ISI agent held

KOLKATA: The police on Saturday arrested a suspected agent of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligen­ce (ISI).

Akhtar Khan alias Md Javed alias Raju was arrested from Colootola area of the city under Jorashanko Police station.

“It is suspected that he was involved in espionage and passing informatio­n to neighbouri­ng countries,” Joint Commission­er of Kolkata Police ( headquarte­rs) Rajiv Mishra told journalist­s.

According to the police, the 51-year-old accused was carrying fake Indian currency notes of denominati­on of Rs 1.72 lakh.

The accused booked under charges of waging war against Government of India, criminal conspiracy and use of counterfei­t currency among other charges will be produced before a city court on Sunday.

Though the police did not specify his nationalit­y senior officers said that some of relatives of the accused are living in the city.
