Zeel wins ITF junior title



Top seed Zeel Desai continued to assert her game against the 15-year-old Sathwika Sama, as she beat the second seed and doubles partner, 7-5, 6-1 in the girls’ final of the ITF grade-4 junior tennis tournament in Dubai on Saturday.

It was the second successive title for the national junior

INDIANS ABROAD champion, as Zeel had won the title a fortnight earlier in Thailand.

It was the third grade-4 junior singles title this season for the 16-year-old Zeel.

In the ITF grade-5 junior event in Rajshahi, Bangladesh, Dhruv Sunish won his second successive singles title. The results: $10,000 ITF men, Niceville, USA: Singles (quarterfin­als): Jean-Yves Aubone (US) bt Rishab Agarwal 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

ITF grade-4 juniors, Dubai, UAE: Girls (final): Zeel Desai bt Sathwika Sama 7-5, 6-1.

Doubles (final): Ana Makatsaria (Geo) & Vitalia Stamat (Mda) bt Akanksha Bhan & Sabhyata Nihalani 6-3, 6-4.

ITF grade-5 juniors, Rajshahi, Bangladesh: Boys (final): Dhruv Sunish bt Ishaque Eqbal 7-6(2), 6-0.

Doubles (final): Ishaque Eqbal & Parikshit Somani bt Vishal Chugani (Hkg) & Dhruv Sunish 6-3, 6-1.

Girls (final): Lian Tran (Ned) bt Lalita Devarakond­a 6-1, 6-1.
