‘Flood-hit selfies’ irk residents

- STAFF REPORTER

CHENNAI: On Saturday, residents of Periyar Nagar in Madipakkam staged a protest over official apathy in handling the flood situation. More than 50 residents — who gathered on Periyar Nagar Main Road — said Fifth Street had waist-deep water for five days and repeated calls to the Corporation to have the problem of inundation addressed did not yield any result.

Rat snakes and crabs entered the houses on Friday. Chennai Corporation officials ensured that the blockage in the drain network was removed to reduce water inundation. R. Selvam, however, alleged that some Corporation workers were taking ‘selfies’ which irritated the residents who were going through great suffering.
