Clashes in J&K over civilian death
Violence broke out in Kupwara’s Handwara area on Thursday as a “militant” killed two days ago in an operation turned out to be a civilian. Following violent protests, a magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
The bullet-ridden body of Shahid Ahmad Mir, son of Bashir Ahmad Mir, a resident of Daril Tarathpor Ramhal, was spotted by the police in Hafruda forest range, where the army launched an operation on Monday. “Scores of locals were injured on Thursday when the protests broke out during funeral prayers. Three protesters suffered pellet injuries too.
