Doctor deposes before probe panel
Answers queries related to Jayalalithaa’s medical treatment
P. Balaji, the doctor who certified former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s thumb impression while she was in hospital for the nomination papers of AIADMK candidates for byelections to three Assembly constituencies, on Thursday deposed before the Commission led by the retired High Court judge, justice A. Arumughaswamy. It has been tasked with carrying out a probe into the circumstances surrounding the late Chief Minister’s hospitalisation and subsequent death.
Talking to reporters after deposing before the panel, Dr. Balaji said he answered the queries posed by Justice Arumughaswamy. “From the treatment given to her [ Jayalalithaa] by AIIMS doctors and the doctor from London, to all the [other] queries asked by the judge, I have replied,” he said.
The Commission has summoned several others, including retired IAS officials, to appear before it in connection with the probe into Jayalalithaa’s death.
