Congress secretary meets Stalin
Sanjay Dutt, one of the two All India Congress Committee secretaries in charge of Tamil Nadu, met DMK president M.K. Stalin at his Alwarpet residence on Saturday.
Though Mr. Dutt said he had met the DMK leader to convey his greetings for Deepavali, Congress sources said that the two leaders discussed, among other issues, the DMK president’s meeting with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday.
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president Su. Thirunavukkarasar did not accompany Mr. Dutt for the meeting. Earlier in the day, the TNCC president and the AICC secretary met the presidents of District Congress Committees (DCCs) and district observers appointed by the TNCC at the party's headquarters.
Mr. Dutt is due to begin a block-level tour of the State on Monday. Over 14 days, he intends to visit cadre in 35 DCCs in an attempt to rejuvenate the party ahead of the general elections.
BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan responded to Mr. Naidu’s meeting with various opposition leaders by asserting that the NDA government would return to power after the next general election. “The forces that are uniting now were against the BJP anyway. As for Mr. Naidu, he has refused to give his people the ₹70,000 crore that the Central government had given him,” she said.
