Congress sec­re­tary meets Stalin

San­jay Dutt, one of the two All In­dia Congress Com­mit­tee sec­re­taries in charge of Tamil Nadu, met DMK pres­i­dent M.K. Stalin at his Al­war­pet residence on Satur­day.

Though Mr. Dutt said he had met the DMK leader to con­vey his greetings for Deep­avali, Congress sources said that the two lead­ers dis­cussed, among other is­sues, the DMK pres­i­dent’s meet­ing with Andhra Pradesh Chief Min­is­ter N. Chan­drababu Naidu on Fri­day.

Tamil Nadu Congress Com­mit­tee (TNCC) pres­i­dent Su. Thirunavukkarasar did not ac­com­pany Mr. Dutt for the meet­ing. Ear­lier in the day, the TNCC pres­i­dent and the AICC sec­re­tary met the presidents of District Congress Com­mit­tees (DCCs) and district ob­servers ap­pointed by the TNCC at the party's head­quar­ters.

Mr. Dutt is due to be­gin a block-level tour of the State on Mon­day. Over 14 days, he in­tends to visit cadre in 35 DCCs in an at­tempt to re­ju­ve­nate the party ahead of the gen­eral elec­tions.

BJP’s re­sponse

BJP leader Tamil­i­sai Soundarara­jan re­sponded to Mr. Naidu’s meet­ing with var­i­ous op­po­si­tion lead­ers by as­sert­ing that the NDA govern­ment would re­turn to power af­ter the next gen­eral elec­tion. “The forces that are unit­ing now were against the BJP any­way. As for Mr. Naidu, he has re­fused to give his peo­ple the ₹70,000 crore that the Cen­tral govern­ment had given him,” she said.
